Valentines Day Traditions

Valentine’s Day is most commonly used to express love and affection for a special someone with the exchange of greeting cards, floral arrangements and gifts such as jewelry and clothing. Making a romantic proposal to a significant other is another popular tradition on this holiday. This is often achieved by going on a date to somewhere romantic with someone in your life that you care deeply about. This custom originated from the popular belief that birds chose their partners every year on February the 14th.

For this reason, Valentines Day has been coined “the Birds’ Wedding Day” and is now celebrated as a time for those in love. Valentine’s Day was originally associated with romantic couples only, however in recent times this holiday has been seen in a much larger range of relationships. Now, people will take this opportunity to wish ‘Happy Valentine’s Day’ to anyone they love (fathers, mothers, teachers, siblings, friends, or co-workers.) The idea behind this tradition is to spread love to everyone in our lives. This Valentine’s Day surprise someone you care about with a night out on the town or with a gift such as chocolates, clothing, or jewelry.
